Google’s Expandable Snippets: What You Need to Know

Google recently announced a new form of featured snippets designed to show users more useful aspects of the topic they search for. When you search a query that includes this new format, a handful of expandable snippets below the featured snippet will offer more pertinent information.

For example, if you search for [gas vs. electric stove] you will see a main snippet with images, then additional snippets that can be expanded to give an idea on which is better, which is more efficient, and which is cheaper to operate.

These new panels are automatically generated based on our understanding of these topics from content on the web, and we hope you find them useful as they roll out over the next few days.

Google announced multifaceted features snippets back in February, which offered different types of information on search queries that were broad enough to be interpreted in multiple ways. These allowed snippets to expand on a broad topic, whereas these new snippets allow searches to narrow down on a specific topic instead.
