In the past we’ve discussed ways to generate interest in your blog posts, but as a company you probably want to do more than just create some buzz about a topic. What about improving your search engine optimization efforts? Or increasing your traffic? A blog post can do both, but there are some tips to keep in mind when creating a post.
Make it Visible
First and foremost you need to make it easy for visitors to find your blog. Too many companies have their blog below the fold where users have to scroll down the page to find it. Instead have the tab to your blog at the top of your site. It doesn’t make any sense to spend all that time creating content when people can’t find it.
Optimize Your Posts
Another tip is to ensure each post is optimized for keywords. As part of your SEO strategy you should already know which keywords and phrases you need to target, but in case you don’t try using Google Keyword Planner to find them. By optimizing your blog posts for specific keywords and phrases, your posts will have a better chance at being found.
Don’t allow your blog to become something that keeps your audience updated every once in a while. By publishing new posts three to five times a week, you’ll significantly increase your traffic. In addition to getting more traffic Google will recognize how often you publish fresh content and will crawl your site more often.
Use Photos or Videos
Do your best to include a photo into each one of your posts. It helps with optimization and creates interests for readers. If you have an opportunity to create a video don’t hesitate to do it. Videos are some of the most shared content on the web.
A lot of blogs allow comments but don’t always make it easy for visitors to leave them. In many cases users have to login and create an account or go through CAPTCHA before contributing to the conversation. The comment section is about creating conversation and getting your visitors involved. Don’t discourage them by making it difficult to do so.
