Traffic vs. Conversions – The Changing Role of an SEO

We’ve said it before and we’ll certainly say it again: SEO is constantly changing. The evolution of SEO even in the last few years has been significant and it’s been tough to adapt for many in the industry. Keeping up with Google’s algorithm updates is a challenge on its own, but consistently improving ourselves to deliver the best possible results for our clients is our highest priority.

In the past one of the biggest ways we could show value to a client was through the generation of more traffic. If a site received more visitors, then naturally the site should be increasing its sales. This assumption is no longer enough in our world.

Today the generation of traffic is still a top priority, but what’s more important than generating traffic is generating conversions. The ability to demonstrate how the traffic we generate produces conversions is the best way we can show value to a client.

We’re now adjusting forms, creating landing pages, performing A/B testing, and a whole lot more in an effort to increase each client’s conversions. Yes we still spend time adjusting title tags, building links and creating content, but at the end of the day we want to show our clients how many conversions we’re responsible for generating.
